To start your best outdoor, wildlife adventure day, we will pick you up from your hotel and drive approximately 45 minutes to the outskirts of the town of Cañas for a walking tour around the rescue shelter. Las Pumas is the largest animal shelter in Latin America, housing big cats such as pumas, jaguars and monkeys, deer and even toucans. It's a nature and animal lovers' paradise, with a myriad of trails to follow. After this great kickoff to your day, it'll be a quick stop along the way to the town of Bijagua to enjoy a delicious Costa Rican lunch — right before entering "sloth territory." Bijagua is a special place to observe the two different kinds of sloths in Costa Rica: both the two- and three-toed species. Located on the Caribbean slopes of the Miravalles and Tenorio volcanos, the panoramic views of Costa Rica's topography are amazing, something you'll only discover by traveling through the country's mountains, across or down its rivers. In this magical place, you can also see Blue-jeans frogs, the Green and Black Poison Dart frog and the most famous of all, the Red-eyed Tree frog in memorable and pristine rainforest locations. Needless to say, the absolute highlight of the experience is spotting this plethora of wildlife in natural and unique habitat — yet enjoying the view from safe observation areas. Definitely a Costa Rica "Must Do."
