In the midst of the rainforest exists one of the most photographed waterfalls in the world. “Los Teñideros” lies at the end of one of the most beautiful rivers of Costa Rica: the Rio Celeste. Los Teñideros is located where two streams of crystalline water merge into one. The mix between the minerals of the river and the minerals from the volcano crater create the famous celestial blue hue that gives the river its name when the sunlight reflects off of the high mineral content of the waters. It is within the composition of the water which contains the colloidal silica that is reflected off the sunlight and fool the human eye by returning an image of turquoise blue suspended in the water. The Rio Celeste waterfall has been recognized as one of the seven natural wonders of Costa Rica - a must see when in Guanacaste. Did you know that located within the park and covered by a dense cloud forest lies the Tenorio Volcano? But don’t worry it’s been dormant for years.
